First Newsletter of the Year!
As this is the first newsletter of the year I would like to wish all our members and readers the very best wishes for a happy and healthy 2016. Your Pro Shop team are really looking forward to the New Year ahead with a number of events planned to help you all get even more fun and enjoyment from your golf.
This is obviously a quiet time of year for the Team in the Pro Shop which allows us to plan for the season ahead. We are looking forward to all the new stock arriving in February and I know there will something for everyone.
After some very interesting meetings with manufacturers and suppliers we will have some exciting new club fitting opportunities for everyone to help you make the right decisions when choosing your equipment. More news on this to follow in the weeks ahead.
We are finalising dates for a number of events such as extra club fitting days, fashion events, particularly for the ladies, and some special FootJoy golf shoe fitting days for those of you who have problems getting a correct fitting for your golf shoes. We will be looking to provide golf holidays with golf and tuition included. Richard, Jonny and I will be playing in Pro Am tournaments throughout the year and will be looking for partners ( First Pro Am Saffron Walden 28th Jan 2016) if anyone would like to play.
Please make your Pro Shop team your first choice of call for anything golf in 2016.
Captains Drive In
The ceremonial 'Captains Drive In' was held once again on New Years Day. Always well supported by the members this is the traditional day when the Captains of the club change and the out going Captains introduce their chosen new Captains for the year ahead.
A big thank you to all last years Captains Dianne McDonnell, Ian Griffiths, Jordie Allen and Ray Bolton for all their hard work in organising and managing their teams for all the matches. A special mention should also be made for raising of around £18000 for their chosen charities from all sections of the club.
Good luck to he incoming Captains John Tuttle , Lynn Lambert, Keith Fayres and Jack Nunn for the season ahead and judging by the entertaining speech from John Tuttle, the Men's Captain the new year should be a lot of fun.
Staff v Committee match before Christmas.
A match was played on the Tuesday before Christmas between the Committee and Staff which was halved at 3 games all. The Staff side made up of 5 greenkeepers, 1 office, 3 Pro Shop, 2 Bar and 1 kitchen staff although managing a half weren't quite able to wrestle the Sandra Sharp Salver away from the Committee, who remain the holders after their win in last year's match. Always a fun event it is a great way to bring the year to an end at the club. A big thank you to Mike Beetham and Harry Jeffrey who manned the BBQ at the 11th supplying everyone with beef burgers and mince pies, much appreciated.
Junior Captains Drive in Competition
At a time when many junior sections at golf clubs across the county are struggling for numbers it was great to see 14 from our Junior section turn out and support their new Captain Jack Nunn at his drive in last Sunday. The weather was absolutely foul so it is to everyone's credit who took part on the day. Congratulations to Dan Wiseman on his maiden Victory. Dan had an incredible 37 points in the awful wet conditions, Well done Dan. Lily Waters came second with a very creditable 34 points. Once again well done to everyone who took part.
