Pro Shop Team attend Foremost Golf and PGA Seminar
On Thursday this week Richard, Jonny and I went back to the classroom when we attended a seminar run by Foremost Golf and the PGA at Welwyn Garden City GC, which was Sir Nick Faldo's club when he was a junior golfer.
The seminar covered a myriad of topics from the drop in golf participation and ideas on how to get more people playing golf.
Also Information on business topics that relate first hand to golf clubs and their members with particular attention paid to how as golf professionals we align our services to the needs of golf clubs.
All three of us came away very enthused and will be looking to apply a lot of what we have learnt to increase members enjoyment of their golf at The Links.
New Spring Summer Stock arriving
The Pro Shop team have had a very busy week with some of the Spring/ Summer stock beginning to arrive in store. Linda has been in her element with the unpacking of all the ladies fashion clothing. It all has to be unpacked and entered as stock on our till system, priced up and displayed. We are also very excited to take delivery of a new range for the shop from Mizuno, a company who are known worldwide for their top quality golf clubs. Although a new brand to our shop, one I' m sure you will know lots about and we feel sure you will find a great addition to our selection. We are busy creating a new club fitting area within the store and I'm pleased to announce we will also be taking delivery of the GC2 launch monitor, you will have seen it on the Sky golf coverage, it will take our club fitting service to a whole new level. More information on the GC2 over the next few weeks.
FootJoy Shoe Fitting Day
Make a note in your diary for our first FootJoy shoe fitting event on Monday 7th March between 10.30am & 3.30pm. We have the pleasure of hosting James from FootJoy for the day, and he tells me size matters! He will bring along with him every Style of FootJoy shoe in every size and width that they offer.
We will be booking appointments so if you have had problems in the past finding shoes to fit you hopefully the day will prove very useful for you.
Each appointment will take about 15 minutes and we will have in place incentives to buy on the day.

Ideas to help improve pace of play.
In recent weeks the pace of play on the course particularly at weekends has been slower than ideal, which has impacted on the enjoyment of golfers. The course has been very busy due to the shorter daylight hours at this time of year, weather being very mild and the fact that we have all just paid and renewed our subs, which always focuses our attention to play more. We already have in place the weekend winter tee times separating two balls from 3 &4 balls to try and help with pace of play but there a number of other ways in which we can all look to help speed play up.
-Be ready to play when the course is clear and it is your turn to play.
- Elaborate pre-shot routines i.e.taking too many practise swings that holds play up.
- Slower players/groups not calling fasters golfers through soon enough.
-General green side etiquette i.e. parking trollies correctly for the exit to next hole.
-Not playing a provisional ball when there is doubt about the original one.
-Not following or watching offline shots closely enough.
-Marking cards when it's your turn to play.
For any of the above to work it will take the cooperation of all golfers to work together and be reading from the same page so to speak. You can only play as fast as the group in front allows so please give more respect to your fellow golfer and let's, together, make golf at The Links more enjoyable for all.
