New dress rules for Roses and Shamrock entertainments evening
A combined St Georges and St Patrick night turned out to be the perfect combination for a fun evening at the club last Saturday. Nearly 100 party revellers danced the night away to music from the band Micks Kitchen with many adorning the new dress code required for the evening. I'm not sure it will be to everyone's taste though.

The US Masters Sweepstake
The first major of the year is once again upon this week, and in the Pro Shop we are running a Sweepstake to coincide with it. Men can enter the sweepstake by playing in the stableford on Saturday/Sunday this weekend in the usual way and the ladies by playing in the Sunday medal. Draw a pros name competing at the Masters add his first round score to your own score over the weekend and the lowest score wins. There will be 3 prizes for vouchers to be spent in the Pro Shop. Good luck.

The Great Links Fun Run-5K
Our Ladies Captain, Lynn Lambert has nominated Addenbrooke's Breast Cancer Appeal as one of her chosen charities this year. Lynn and her charity committee have arranged for a Fun Run for Sunday 10th July starting at 7.30 in the evening. The general committee have agreed to close the course for this event. It is called a fun run but don't be put off as you can also walk or jog as much or little as you want. The idea is to raise as much money for the appeal so the event is open to members and their friends and families.
Click here for an entry form or they are available from the Secretary's Office, Pro Shop, clubhouse bar or by emailing sarahgreenall50@gmail.com . Please make a note in your diary and come along for a great fun event at your club
Junior Open
Monday saw the annual Links Junior Open, with 35 juniors from across the county participating. The conditions were very mixed with the first group teeing off in wet windy conditions and by the half way the rain had stopped, allowing the juniors to post some great back nine scores. After the second group had teed off we had a halt in play due to a rider less horse loose on the first tee giving some of the visiting juniors the full Newmarket experience. The Newmarket charge was lead by David Marris playing in his last junior open before heading out to California for college in the summer. Unfortunately for David a couple of missed putts on the home stretch left him a stroke off the top spot. Closely following David was our Junior Vice Captain young Max Weaver who after a difficult front nine finding himself 9 over par dug deep for an impressive level par back nine to finish in 8th spot in the scratch competition.
It was déjà vu once again because after 18 holes just like last year 3 players had tied on 76 for the scratch cup. Callum Brookes (Saffron Walden, Newmarket) Archie Winter (Halesworth) and James McLaughlin (Ely) all featured in the play off with Callum keeping his cool to close out the others for the victory. Congratulations Callum!
Junior Coaching Easter Holidays.
Both Richard and Jonny have been out and about this Easter running their respective Junior coaching programmes which continue to be well supported.
It is always gratifying to see all the youngsters out enjoying the game of golf.
I just wanted to share this selfie from a rain effected session on Wednesday this week.
Sarah beats the boy's
In last week's midweek medal Sarah Greenall took no time at all in taking advantage of the new rule allowing lady members to play in some of the gents competitions.
Sarah with an excellent score of gross 75 net 69 won the midweek medal on her first appearance. Well played Sarah.
