Charity Day
Congratulations to Captains John and Lynn
Congratulations to John Tuttle and Lynn Lambert on a job well done on Charity Day last Saturday. The full power and resources of the Links Charity Day team with all its volunteers moved into action to extract as much money as possible from the competitors, whilst at the same time nearly 200 golfers having a fun day. The chosen charities this year were the Addenbrookes Breast Cancer Appeal and Newmarket Citizens Advice Bureau.
The Club has hosted a Charity Day for the last 30 years, supporting the charities chosen by the current Captains of their year with over £175,000 having been raised during this time. Once again a good amount has been raised this year, watch this space for the actual amount, we are still counting!
A Big Thank You To Our Members - Message from John and Lynn
We would both like to express our gratitude and thanks to all the members who contributed to our Charity Fundraising events on Tuesday and on Saturday last week.
Whether you gave sponsorship, made a donation, gave a prize, performed a specific role on the golf course or in the clubhouse, or simply took part in either the golf and/or other activities, we thank you for your efforts which all assisted in making it a great day both for the enjoyment generated and more importantly the charitable funds realised.

Hole In One for Colin!
Colin Searle holed out for his ace on Charity Day last Saturday. Playing with Tony Finney, Mick Butcher and Philip Helliar. Colin holed out at the 12th hole which has been a lucky hole recently for Colin as only last week he had won £17 from a two that he scored in the weekly medal. Colin celebrated in style with champagne in the clubhouse afterwards, which I obviously helped him with. Well played Colin.
Rob and Ollie off to Wentworth
Head Greenkeeper Rob and assistant Ollie Kirk will be representing The Links GC at the BMW PGA Championships at Wentworth this week. Rob and Ollie are helping to set up the course for the tournament and will be on hand to repair any bunkers that the players may visit during their round. Rob has not missed a championship at Wentworth in 19 years with this week being Ollie's first. I will be spectating on Thursday so will try and get a picture of them in action. If you get a chance to see any golf on the TV this week look out for them.
Jon Daly adds another 45 yards to his drive this week at The Links!
This week's club fitting success was a 45 yard increase in driver distance which was all down to a stiffer shaft and a huge decrease in the balls spin rate. Jon, not the one you was thinking about, has a very powerful golf swing and the regular shaft in his Cleveland driver created over 5000 rpm's spin with every shot. The optimum range is between 2000- 3000 rpm's dependant on swing speed. I was amazed when almost immediately after introducing a stiffer shaft the spin rate was halved ,resulting in an immediate 40-50 yard distance increase.
First 7 shots were with Jon's old Cleveland driver, with shots 8-12 Mizuno new driver stiff shaft.
