Senior Mens Championships
Last Friday the Mens Senior Club Championships were played in bright, breezy and very bouncy conditions.
With a good field of over 60 competitors supporting the event, scoring proved very tricky.
The best scratch score of the day went to Harry Garside, who was the only player in the field to break 80 with his gross score of 79.
For me though the big story of the day was Doug Misson who won the handicap championship by 10 clear shots plus also came within two shots of equalling the best gross score of the day as well.
Well done Harry and Doug.
Scratch league Team progress in Goddard Cup
Scratch Team Captain Ed Dimambro and his team have booked their place to meet Saffron Walden in the semi-final of the Goddard Cup to be played at The Links in the next month.
After a scare in the quarter finals against Elton Furze, the team trailing by a point at lunch, an afternoon singles revival meant the team finished the day 7- 5 winners. Well done to team Dave Marris, Matt Hartley, Alex Day, Paul Sharplin and Chris Brown and good luck in the next round.
The Great Links 5K Fun Run
Congratulations to the organisers and everyone who took part in the Links Fun Run last Sunday held over a planned route around the Links Golf Course. With over 100 participants who ranged from the serious runner to the not so serious dog walker, all had a great time and raised over £3000 for the Addenbrookes Cancer Appeal. The winner of the mens run was Greig Davis who covered the 5K course in just 18 mins and 25seconds. The ladies winner was Maxine Lane who ran the course 20mins and 10sec. Well done everyone.
Beat your handicap and win some Titleist balls
Titleist are sponsoring a "Beat your Handicap" competition to held over the weekend of 23rd and 24th July. The event is open to all sections of the membership and the entry process is fairly straightforward, play in any of the competitions over that weekend, buy some Titleist balls before you play and Titleist will cover your cost if you beat your handicap. Good luck.
