Why Driver Fitting matters! 

What a great Open Championship we have just witnessed at Royal Troon last week. I was pleased to see Henrik Stenson come through and win his first major, and in such style as well. As many of you know Sky TV have just taken on the exclusive live coverage of the The Open from the BBC and have introduced a number of new initiatives to help engage the golfer even more. One such area that I found particularly interesting was the sharing of ball flight images (on screen tracer lines) and data from the numerous launch monitors on the course and practise area. It showed how far the Pros were hitting the ball and other vital flight information. 

What struck me was the technology that was available last weekend for the world's best golfers is now available to you and the rest of the Links GC members. 

I think it is vital that we make you aware that the information we get from these launch monitors can and does make a real difference to the club golfer. Recently Golf Digest carried out a study on how 150 average golfers hit their drivers. They measured swing speeds from 60 miles per hour to 130, and handicaps from 0 to 36. For the test, they used a Foresight Sports GC2 launch monitor (the same monitor that we have at The Links) that measured swing speed, ball speed, launch angle, spin rate and distance. They also asked dozens of America's top 100 Best Club fitters to share similar launch data from their customers. What they found was that the average golfer launches the ball too low, generates too much backspin and doesn't make solid contact with the center of the face. Specifically, we're not hitting it as far as we should given our respective swing speeds, regardless of what it is.
