Junior Pro Am- Sharkey Salver
Richard, Jonny and I had a great time on Saturday playing in The Links Junior Pro AM event. A particular thank you to my team Patrick Noone (10), Dan Wiseman (15) and Ollie Kirk (18). I had a most enjoyable afternoon and was shown a few new shots also. The winners with 43 points for the ten holes where Richard's Team made up by Louis Brown, Dan Knight and Teddy Hall, well done chaps.
Also presented on the day was The Sharkey Salver. This is a new trophy for the Junior Section and is presented to the winner of the Order of Merit. Points are awarded for the O of M by being selected for team matches and for competitions throughout the year. The idea of the event is to encourage participation throughout the section.
This year's winner is Max Weaver, his support in the team matches and his consistent play over the year have been outstanding. Congratulation's Max who becomes the first name on the Salver.
It was good to see Richard Cotterill making good progress with his technique during a lesson this week. Richard has been having lessons over the season and is beginning to see increased distance in his shots and more accuracy included in the bargain.
From the pictures below you will see the improvement of Richards's release of the clubhead in his follow through.
In picture A, you can see that he is holding off the clubs natural release in the follow through by the fact you can see a big gap between his elbows.
After a few simple drills picture B shows a much improved release with his elbows closer together after impact.
Claire needs your help!
Claire Tuttle a junior member at the club, who is just returning to University this week to Cardiff has asked me for some help. She is gathering information for her dissertation about Newmarket.
Subject: Take 4 minutes to help Claire and 'have your say' on Newmarket
John Sharkey has kindly agreed to include my survey in his newsletter in the hope that you will be willing to complete it.
It forms part of my university dissertation which is on the impact of the horse racing industry on Newmarket. It takes about 4 minutes to complete. Click on the link below for survey.
The higher the response, the more valid my research and hopefully the higher my mark! So a very big thank you for helping me make it through university! Click here for the link
Dawn raises £4k for Epilepsy Research UK
Dawn Rahman would like to thank all members who sponsored her on the London Bridges Trek which took place on a very wet Saturday earlier this month. Dawn was raising money for Epilepsy Research UK in memory of her daughter Rachel who died due to Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy(SUDEP).
'Team Rachel', which Dawn led, raised over £4K. An amazing achievement. Husband David, also a Links member, similarly expressed his gratitude to everyone who sponsored Dawn for this worthwhile charity which is very close to their hearts.

Video of the week | It's not long now until the chest thumping and fist pumping starts, and in the build up to this year's Ryder Cup at Hazeltine, a few of the players have been busy slapping on a bit of face paint. Time to book your place in front of the TV, or down the club, and watch all the action on Sky Sports. |
