Ryder Cup Fever
Are you getting caught up in the "Ryder Cup Fever" yet? Some people are, I came across this enlightening clip on Wednesday this week, a conversation between ex-PGA Tour player and now broadcaster, Brandel Chamblee, and David Duval, former World No1. I think the Americans are definitely up for the challenge this year, Cant wait for the golf to start on Friday. The Genus Cup
The Links got the Ryder Cup week off to a cracking start last Sunday with our very own version of the Ryder Cup, The Genus Cup. This inaugural in house match between the Ladies and Gents sections was played in a really good spirit with the Ladies reigning supreme and running out winners by 31pts -25pts.
All competitors got into the Ryder/Solheim spirit by wearing team colours either for America(Ladies) or Europe (Gents). Deidre Burton looked amazing in her homemade team uniform! A special thanks to Bryan Short, for not only captaining the men's side, but for also being the starter and barman at the halfway house together with Chris Buxton and Jane Roberts. Lets hope that it is not the same result for the real thing next weekend.
Below is a write up from our very own Marcella Tuttle:
First win to the ladies in the Genus Cup
Today we played the first ever Ladies v Gents match in the Ryder/Solheim Cup format condensed into 18 holes in 3 sections - 6 holes of foursomes, 6 holes of fourballs and 6 holes of singles. 28 ladies, who were team America this year, played in this inaugural match and the ladies were victorious beating the men 31pts to 25pts!! There were 4 points up for grabs in each of the 14 matches. The ladies reigned supreme in the foursomes winning 10-4. All competitors got into the Ryder/Solheim spirit by wearing team colours either for America or Europe. Deidre looked amazing in her homemade t-shirt! John Tuttle thanked Sarah G and myself for organising the event. Sarah G, who was Captain for the ladies, for organising all the marketing plus worked out the shots for all the different formats on the cards, plus results sheets etc and myself for the decorations and the refreshments in the halfway house. A special thanks to Bryan Short who not only captained the men's side but for also being the starter and the barman at the halfway house together with Chris Buxton and Jane Roberts. Let's hope it's got everyone into the right spirit for the real thing next week! The men are going into training for next year! And we're going to be ready for them!!
