This week's newsletter will be with a twist as it has been written by Jonny and Richard. John has swapped the cold temperatures and temporary greens of Newmarket for the warmer climates of Bay Hill Golf Club, the home of the late Arnold Palmer. He also had the pleasure of playing the Grand Cypress Golf Club which is made up of some of Jack Nichlaus' favourite Scottish links golf holes. Not that us boys in the shop are jealous of him at all. Next week he will be back to work in Orlando when he attends the world golf trade show, checking out all of this year's new equipment to bring to the Links Pro Shop. Below is Johns update from Orlando.
"We were lucky enough to get the chance to play at Bay Hill GC, owned by the late Arnold Palmer and his family . As you might imagine the club house facilities and course we're outstanding, with memories of Arnold just about everywhere. You can only play Bay Hill if you are a guest of a member. They are already preparing the course for the annual Bay Hill Classic in March, which will be the first one since Arnie passed away. It is sure to be a very emotional event, as he will be greatly missed; the club was Arnie's and with his passing they have definitely lost a bit of their stardust.
Arnie lived 100 yards away from the first tee at Bay Hill in a very comfortable but modest condo apartment and would drive to the club in his golf buggy. The men's locker room has all the things you would expect but with some little extras such as Golf Channel TV, bar and card tables. Arnie spent a lot of time here with the members. The PGA Golf Show starts on Monday so more news to follow next week about what's new in golf this season."
Jonny's Juniors
After a great 2016 season with the junior section coming so close to winning the county junior league, the section has gone from strength to strength with more participation and growth in numbers. We now have 41 junior members under the age of 18 years of age and 35 in the age bracket of 18 to 25. This weekend Max Weaver will be driving off in his own Captain's Drive in competition, looking for another successful campaign at the Links after winning a chest of trophies, including the Sharkey Salver Order of merit.
Max will be backed up by his Vice Captain and good friend Dan Wiseman. Good luck boys and the rest of the junior section.
Here is a video of Max and Dan on first tee on the 1st January.
Links Pro Shop Travel Agents
This week Jonny and Rich had a meeting with some of the industry's leading golf travel agents regarding golf holidays for our members and their friends. Booking a golf holiday can be time consuming and stressful but these companies are fully geared up to help you with booking your trip. If you are interested in going on a golf holiday with your friends or family or have any quires about it please pop into shop and we will be able to help. Foremost our buying group we work under has a close relationship with Your Golf Travel and going forwards we will even be able to get you quotes and sort your bookings for you. This year Jonny and Rich will be looking to organise a couple of trips away with the members.
More information coming in next week's newsletter about these trips. |
