Greetings golfers,

Its only February and the golf season already feels as it is in full swing. We have already had the return of Tiger with his signature hardly dry on a new contract with TaylorMade, before he has to pull out of another event. We have had Sergio winning in the Dubai desert, a couple of 59's on the PGA Tour and an emerging star from Japan in Hideki Matsuyama who looks like the real deal.

To help get your season off to a quick start we are launching our very own golf equipment MOT. We have an early season package offering 20% discount from the list of renewables below.

1 Re-grips (minimum 7 clubs).
2 Re- studs.

Pros news

Golf Pride Meeting

Jonny and I had a meeting hosted by Golf Pride at Girton GC on Wednesday. They have released a number of new grips for the season ahead, and it was great to find out the benefits that have been built into them. Golf Pride have a 73% market share of golf grips supplied worldwide. They have a range of grips to suit all golfers which now includes the new soft feel CP2 grip which I think is a great grip for the club golfer. It absorbs the vibrations on miss hits which also helps with aching joints. The Plus 4 grip another new offering, is a slightly tapering grip encouraging a lighter grip pressure in the right hand and is also ideal for chipping and pitching.

Golf Pride have carried out studies that show 67% of golfers don't change their grips often enough. I have to say 'why wouldn't you?' There are 3 components that make up a golf club, a head, shaft and grip. A fresh new grip will transform the feel of a golf club and if you upgrade your grips we guarantee you will play better golf. If you don't believe me then why not take me up on my offer of a FREE brand new grip from the Golf Pride range for your 7 iron and feel the difference. Whilst stock lasts.

Ladies news

On Tuesday this week some 80 of our ladies members met for the annual Ladies' Lunch. The event is a welcomed chance for old friends to get together and it was great to see some of our long-standing members attend. It was especially nice to see Edie Douglas and Teresa Locke back at the club. We all wish them a speedy recovery from their recent health issues and look forward to seeing them back on the course very soon.

This occasion allowed the Ladies to publicly acknowledge Jane Blake for her sterling work in project managing the refurbishment of the ladies changing rooms, the lounge and dining room. Without Jane's attention to detail and her daily supervision of the workmen the result would not have been nearly as good. Jayne Sant-Brown was thanked for organising the lovely flowers and both Jayne and Carolyn Bangs were presented with flowers for their birthdays.

Guest speaker was David Walsh chief sports writer for the Sunday Times, he is acknowledged as one of the leading investigative sports journalists in the world. He is most famous for his pursuit of the truth regarding doping in Cycling that led to Lance Armstrong being stripped of his medals.Guest speaker was David Walsh chief sports writer for the Sunday Times, he is acknowledged as one of the leading investigative sports journalists in the world. Also the winner of the 4 best medal scores in our monthly medals during 2016 was announced as Naomi Pilmer who qualifies to represent The Links and play in the England Golf East Region Medal Final at Rookery Park GC on Saturday 13th May. Good luck Naomi.

A most enjoyable afternoon was had by everyone who attended.

Thought of the week

"The Golf Swing has only one purpose: to deliver the head of the club to the ball correctly, and to achieve such impact repeatedly. Many unorthodox players achieve correct impact -- so long as it's repeatable, it's OK. If golf were about getting into correct positions throughout the swing, then the greatest players in the world have had it wrong. The only position that matters is the club's at impact, which is determined by the clubface alignment (the most important factor), the path of the swing, the angle of attack and the speed of the clubhead. The biggest step in becoming a good player is understanding how the flight of the ball teaches the correct geometry of impact."

John Jacobs

John Jacobs was definitely ahead of his time, he realised that the clubhead at impact information is more important to the golfer than achieving certain positions within your swing. If you want to improve your shot making and gain a better understanding of your impact positions you can.

Book a session on our GC2 clubhead measuring device and find out what you do consistently and why it gives you the results you achieve with your game.
