Charity Day - Saturday 31st May

The club held its annual Charity Golf Day Competition on Saturday with over 200 members and guests taking part in this fund raising fun day.

The Club has hosted a Charity Day for the last 29 years, supporting the charities chosen by the current Captains, and over £165,000 has been raised during this time.

The amount raised this year is still to be announced so watch this space for the final total - we are still counting! Thank you to everyone who helped us to raise funds.

This year the registered charities are:-

Newmarket Day Centre - helping older people maintain their independence and quality of life by providing a drop in centre they can visit every day if they wish.

The Royal British Legion - Charity providing care and support to serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans of all ages and their families.

Papworth Trust - A leading disability charity with their mission to support disabled people to have equality, choice and independence in their lives.

All proceeds from Charity Day will be equally divided between these three charities.

A big thank you to The NAGS who manned the BBQ and helped with refreshments at the cabin on the 11th.

Winners of the competitions were:-

Men's - Shaun Blayney and Karl Scott with 47 points.

Ladies - Sarah Reardon, Carol Wigham, Sarah Greenall and Marcella Tuttle with 85 points.

Visitors - Back Nine Bandits with 85 points.

Putting Prize 1st Sampson Marino, 2nd Harry Garside

This year the 3rd Hole Challenge proved very popular. Players could pay £5 to enter and if they got their first shot onto the green, they won £10.
Thankfully for the charities not too many players were successful and this raised £570.

THANK YOU TO THE MEMBERS FROM THE CAPTAINS :-

We would both like to express our gratitude and thanks to all the members who contributed to our Charity Fundraising event on Saturday.

Whether you gave sponsorship, made a donation, gave prizes, performed a specific role on the golf course or in the clubhouse, or simply took part in either the golf and/or the other activities, we thank you for your efforts which all assisted in making it a great day both for the enjoyment generated and more importantly the charitable funds realised.

Mens & Ladies Captains

Past Captains Sam and Ferdie still swinging!

Sam Maddocks (aged 92) & Ferdie Hensby (aged 90) must be the oldest pair of members still playing regular golf at the Club.

Sam has been a Member for about 60 years with Ferdie not far behind. Both have been Captain of the Club and also Chairman. Sam is currently a Trustee.

The picture shows them on the first tee as they prepare to play their usual Wednesday 10 holes followed by a snack lunch. Long may it continue!

Hole in One for John

Congratulations to John Harvey on his hole in one after trying for 31 years.

Playing last Sunday, John playing the 12th hole only needed his 7 iron to cover the 144 yards for his ace. Along with playing partner and witness Stuart Burch, they watched the ball land on the green roll and fall into the cup.

It also allowed John to replicate the same feat that his father Terry, who many will remember, who also aced the 12th hole a few years before.

Well played John, let's hope it doesn't take another 31 years for the next one!

Captains Summer Ball - Friday 4th July

This is the event of the year at the Golf Club. A huge marquee is erected on the patio and once it has been set up with 17 round tables, each seating 10 people, it looks amazing!! It provides a stunning environment to enjoy an evening of dining, drinking, watching the band, dancing and socialising. Hopefully the sunshine will make an appearance too!

We are lucky enough to have 'Galaxy Big Band' performing for the evening, who will provide you with swing music, jive and jazz. To view their gallery and other info please go their website

If you do not have a group of 10, you don't have to miss out on all the fun - we are taking bookings from couples and smaller groups. We will put you on a larger table where you will be able to meet new people and enjoy an evening of different company.

To reserve your tickets please pop into the office, phone or email us. The cost is £42.00 per person but you will only need to pay a deposit of £10 to secure your place. The balance will need to be paid a few days prior to the event.

So why not treat yourself and loved ones to a quality summer event which will be the highlight of your summer!

How technology helps youstrike a longer ball

Picture that long par 3 that requires a sweetly struck 5-iron. It's an easier hole with a 7-iron in your hands, right? Brands work hard to make our golf more enjoyable; and distance gains are always welcomed...

Technology is one thing, but sometimes it pays to have someone look over your swing. Don't hesitate to get in touch with us for some swing advice.
