Club news

New Members

The first few months of the year sees us welcome new members to the Club. Over the last month, Stephen Banks, Matthew Chambers, Tony Coombes, Ashley Simkiss and Paul Young have joined as full members.

We wish them well and hope they enjoy our Club.

The Club Is Looking For Course Marshals

The duties of the Course Marshals will include monitoring speed of play, enforcing the dress code, and managing general etiquette and behavior of golfers. This is a paid position with the likely times to Marshal being weekend mornings and various busy times midweek, depending on the fixture list.

If you are interested contact Matt in the office.

Ladies news

Ladies' Captain v Vice Captain Match - (Report Marcella Tuttl)

The Ladies' Captain versus Vice-Captain foursomes match ended in a convincing victory for the Captain's team. It was a major thrashing with the Captain's team winning 9½ to a ½. Lesley Ellis thanked Maureen Howes and Pam Fitsall for their efforts as the only pairing in her team to get a ½ and preventing it from becoming a complete whitewash!

Again we were blessed with the weather as the sun shone and the jumpers came off for the first time this year. The rose bowl trophy was presented back in 1978 by Muriel Brown and Joyce Watson when they were Captain & Vice-Captain's together. The idea was to give players some matchplay practice before all the knockouts kicked off.

Unfortunately, Joyce was unable to present the trophy today but Jayne Sant-Brown (Muriel's daughter-in-law) did the honours. Chris Howard kindly provided the roses for the trophy and Dennis and Andy prepared a lovely tea with super homemade cakes.

The results from 1978 now stand at:

Captain's team wins -22
Vice-Captain's team wins - 12
Halved matches - 5
Not contested - 1

Thanks to everyone for playing and making the day as special as always.

Competition news

Match & Competition Results

Congratulations to Lesley McAllister and Margaret Beckley on winning the 1st round of the Daily Mail Foursomes against Haverhill by 5&3. They now play a pair from Ely City. Good luck.

Our Men's CAGU Inter Club side drew their first league match 4 - 4 at home to Gog Magog. Star performers were Mark Canham and Nick Crozier on winning their match 9 up! Their next match is at home to Heydon Grange on Sunday 30th April.

Well done to 12-year-old Teddy Hall on winning the Men's Stableford on Sunday with 39 points. Teddy has now been cut to 10 handicap, only one more shot to get to single figures. The future looks bright for the Junior Section.

Bullough Cup

The golfing season must be underway as qualifying for the Bullough Cup starts on Saturday. This runs for 9 days with the top 31 scores plus the holder going through to the knock out Matchplay stages from the initial 18-hole medal qualifier.

The Bullough Cup is open to all our male members and members of CAGU clubs or clubs we play matches against. You must have a Competition Handicap of 18 or below to enter.

Entry is just £2.50, payable in the pro shop as normal.
Visitors pay an additional £10 green fee midweek and £15 at weekends.
