John Off Ill
Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been about this week, I have been ill with flu! Not the common Man Flu, as my wife calls it, but the proper one. I can testify you can certainly tell the difference between the two. Thanks to everyone for their kind wishes.
Another busy week at the club and another Bank Holiday, things don't stand still just because of a touch of flu, thank goodness.
Putter Lesson / Fitting Promotion
Over the last few months Jonny has been working closely alongside James Jankowski , Quintec putting expert. For those of you who came along to his lessons at the club I'm sure your putting is showing signs of improvement. Fresh of the back of his PGA training and gaining invaluable knowledge and expertise from James, Jonny would now like to offer Links members an insight into this highly successful putting approach.
For a limited period we are offering a FREE putter grip (RRP £13.99) when you book a putter either a fitting or lesson.
A lot about your putting stroke has been determined even before you move the putter head away from the ball. Your body posture, grip and even knowing what your dominant eye is, all influence hugely how you are able to connect body and putter in an efficient putting action.
This is an area of the game that needlessly lets people down with either scoring efficiency or enjoyment. With a little guidance and understanding, why not turn a weakness into a strength?
Click here to book a fitting today.
During the session, you will be given a clear understanding of what is required to improve the efficiency of your stroke and Jonny will also be able to advise on any adjustments that need to made to your existing putter (i.e. Length, loft, grip size etc.) or suggest a different style putter that may suit your putting action better.
Bank Holiday Mixed -The Newport Trophies
A blustery Monday afternoon didn't stop 22 pairs competing for the Newport Memorial Trophies. The Bank Holiday mixed competition have become a very popular golf and social event at The Links over the years.
Congratulations to Marcella& John Tuttle winners on 36 points. John must have played well! In the joint runners up spot were David & Mary Walsh and Ro Robinson & Dale Cole both pairs on 34points.
The magnificent trophies which have been competed for, for 65 years at the club are silver cigarette boxes which were presented to the club in 1952 by Margery Newport. Both Mr & Mrs Newport were Captains at the Club between the war years 1940-47.
Ladies Kick Of The Season With A Win!
We had a fantastic start in the Jean Wilkinson inter-club county event at home winning 6 out of our 7 matches resulting in 12 points for us already. A brilliant effort from my team which was Lynn Lambert, Karen Cook, Barbara Coe, Jane Monk, Sue Hide, Carol Wigham and Dawn Rahman.
Many thanks to the caddies: Margaret Beckley, Naomi Pilmer, Pat Dugdale, Edie Douglas and Jude Hole for supporting the team and keeping their players focused.
The Jean Wilkinson is an inter-club league run by CHCLGA. The format is singles matchplay, team of 7 in specified handicap brackets - all matches are played off scratch. The clubs in our group which we'll be playing home and away are: Gog Magog, Girton and St Neots.
Our next match is on Sunday 4th June v Gog Magog at home.
Club Fitting Success This Week - Steve Pleass
It's always good to report on club fitting success. I would like to share with you member Steve Pleass experience from just last week. Steve upgraded to a new Lynx Parrallax driver which had a lighter shaft and less loft than his previous driver.
This new combination gained Steve accuracy and more distance during the fit. Steve put the club straight in the bag and shot a 69 and at Girton GC, his personal best score.
Well done Steve.
We have a Lynx demo day coming up on Thursday, 1 June with 8 spots available!

Mark Paine
Mark bought a set of irons about 18 months ago when he began to play a bit more golf. He had some lessons with Richard and has put some time in on the course & range this year and is beginning to see some real progress. So much so he had a fitting last week and found that he now needs not only stiffer, but heavier shafts in his irons, as his golf swing numbers have increased in speed.
By making this adjustment Mark's ball flight and accuracy improved. Mark chose Mizuno JPX Hot Metal 900 irons in steel 110g shafts. Well done Mark.
Another date for the diary is the Mizuno demo day booked for Tuesday, 20 June.
