Lombard Trophy
I would like to report on The Links GC's attempt at qualifying for this year's Lombard Trophy Final to be played at Gleneagles. A big thank you to David Orwell who partnered me in this year's event, David played brilliantly on the day and was great company and made the day a most enjoyable experience. As a pair we finished in a tie for 6th spot with a four under par total of 68 in a field of over 40 pairs. The qualifying event was played at the Orsett GC which is used as an Open qualifying course and was running hard and fast with very narrow fairways. We got off to a very slow start but then followed with a run of 7 birdies on the trot starting from the 4th hole. Unfortunately we didn't make use of our opportunities over the last six holes which would have enabled us to finish higher. A great event as always and once again thank you David for partnering me. Lombard are again sponsoring next year's tournament so keep an eye out for your chance to qualify to play a part in next year's event.

Ladies US Open
Congratulations to Michelle Wie on winning her first Major professional tournament and fulfilling the huge potential that she first showed us all 10 years ago when she burst onto the scene as a 14 year old. Lots of sub plot stories from the week included the remarkable debut of 11 year old Lucy Li, who became the youngest ever qualifier of the event. With two rounds of 78 unfortunately Lucy didn't make the cut but she looks to have an incredible future ahead of her. Another first on the week was the fact that the Ladies event immediately followed the men's tournament over the same Pinehurst 2 course.
In last week's newsletter you will have seen Bryan Short offering advice to Martin Kaymer on his way on winning the men's event, so not to be out done, Jane Roberts was able to complete the involvement of Links members at this year's Ladies US Open when she was on hand to help Michelle.
Ashworth Shoe and 50% OFF Clothing offer.
This promotion was to run as long as England remained in the World Cup! Unfortunately, I didn't think that England would only last two matches before they were out so I have had a rethink and not to worry I have now adopted Brazil as my designated Ashworth Sale team. So as long as Brazil remain in the cup, (hopefully will not be the kiss of death for them), you will be pleased to find the that all Ashworth clothing is HALF PRICE when you purchase a pair of Ashworth Cardiff golf shoes.
