I'm pleased to report that it's been a very busy week at the club with the highlight of the year, for both our Gents and Ladies Captains, with their respective Captains days. The week kicked off with the Captains Summer Ball last Friday with over 120 members and guests attending this superb evening complete with a 20 strong 'Big Band'.
This was followed by Captain's day itself on Sunday with David Smith welcoming over 150 golfers to his competition, teeing off from 5am and playing for the Captains Prizes. These prizes are presented at the Club's annual prize giving ceremony later that afternoon alongside the traditional presentation of all the club's silverware in the shape of cups and salvers that are presented to the all the winners from the year.
There were also a collection of Two's club winners - Harry Garside, Lee Roberts, Eddie Guest, Gary witham, Malcolm Simmons, Adrian Robertson, Richard Bonnett each receiving £26
Tuesday saw our Ladies Captain Day competition, again well supported with over 75 ladies taking part. This is always a very enjoyable day with Lesley Duncan-Edge our ladies Captain presenting every competitor with a sunflower on the 1st tee to get everyone in the party mood. The weather just about held only catching just a few of the late starters, but it wasn't enough to spoil the day. The afternoon entertainment saw all our ladies dressing up to enjoy afternoon tea and entertainment.
A sincere thank you to David and Lesley, our Captains this year on arranging such a wonderful week and safely continuing the traditions that make our club such a special one. A job well done to all the staff from Rob and his team on presenting the course in superb fashion, to Dennis and his team for all the meals and particularly the splendid meal for the ball on Friday night. Matt and Julie for getting all the Trophies for the presentation organised and all the scorecards checked and completed in time for the presentations. To Dianne and her team for looking after us and keeping us all refreshed behind the bar. Finally thank you to all the members who supported the week, because it wouldn't happen without you supporting the club in all these functions, which allows the club to continue all these marvellous traditions that we have inherited. We should all feel very proud of our Links Golf Club.
PING launches the new G30 range.
PING has announced the launch of their new PING G30 model both in irons and woods. The fairway woods have added loft adjustability which I think will be particularly useful as you will be able to change the loft of a fairway wood by as much as 1 degree up or down to maximise trajectory from the fairway.
Through the month of July we are offering free fittings on all orders for irons and woods for the launch date of 1st August.
British Open
I am looking forward to a few days away at the British Open at Hoylake next week. I will be taking in a practise day which allows me to take my camera onto the course enabling me to take a few pictures and video of the players, cameras are not permitted on tournament days. I haven't been to Royal Liverpool GC before so it will be a first and one I'm really looking forward to. I will report back on my findings and the form of Tiger's return to Major golf after his back operation.
