Club Championships 2014
Nearly 60 competitors took part in the 2014 Club Championships played over 36 holes last Sunday. On a bright breezy day and with the course in good order a stiff challenge lay ahead. Congratulations to Luke Bowers on winning the Scratch championship for the second time and possibly last as he looks to turn professional in the autumn. With rounds of 73 & 77 for a gross 150 total, Luke just managed to hold the advantage over Ken Parsons and Toby Crisp by one shot. The Reynolds Salver (h'caps Scr-18), the handicap championship winner was Mark Langland by a canter from Jack Nunn in second place. Mark had an 11 under net winning score of 133. The winner of the Ennion Salver (H'caps 19-28) was Ian Ellwood, who won on count back with 42 points from Richard Allum.
Temporary membership success
I was delighted to see Ian Ellwood win the Ennion Salver for a number of reasons. Ian joined our temporary membership scheme last year.
The scheme allows for a potential new member to join for a 4 month period, make full use of the facilities and experience all that the club has to offer. Ian enjoyed his golf at the Links so much last summer he decided to take up the offer of full membership immediately afterwards.
The Pro Shop has been helping him with his game and his handicap has been coming down nicely this spring and has now culminated with his win last Saturday.
Ian is now a fully integrated member of the club and plays with a group of members each week and a great example of how successful the temporary membership scheme has been for attracting new members.
Ladies Club Championships
There was an exciting finish to the Ladies Club Championships this year with Jackie Ewing just holding out to win, for the fifth time, the Ladies main scratch event. It all went down to the last hole with all three of the main protagonists Jackie, Marcella Tuttle and Caroline Bird all playing together and all in with a chance to win, but it was Jackie who prevailed.
Jackie Ewing - 81-78 = 159 Marcella Tuttle - 81-79 = 160 Caroline Bird - 78-82 = 160 Ladies Club Champion - Jackie Ewing Runner-up scratch - Caroline Bird
The 36-hole Nett prize winner playing for the Paula Ewing trophy was Marcella Tuttle with runner up Yada Adams
The 20-36 hcp category and 36-hole scratch prize was won by Lesley Ellis.
Congratulations to all the prize winners (pictured above) and well played to everyone on the day, considering the torrential rain after lunch making playing conditions extremely difficult for all.
Malcolm's Championship Hole in One
Congratulations to Malcolm Simmons the 2012 Seniors Champion for his hole in one during this years Club Championships last Sunday.
Malcolm holed out at the 9th using his 4 iron, the shot was witnessed by Jason Evans and Chris Brown.
Well done Malcolm.
