Greetings from John Sharkey
The Links Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

The PGA East Region along with 36 professionals and their teams came to the club this week for the annual Pro Am. The atrocious weather conditions made it a very long and difficult day for players and organisers alike with two suspensions of play during the day for thunder and lightning. The course held up incredibly well in light of the amount of rain that it took and allowed the event to finish on the day. Despite the conditions and the late finish, 8 pro's finished on a score of par or better with our own Links Assistant, Jonny Sharkey, tied for first spot with Jason Levermore from Channels GC, both with 4 under par rounds of 68. This was Jonny's first professional win and with his round which included 3 birdies and an eagle on the 13th hole won him £700 making it his biggest pay day yet.

The team event winners led by Professional Brett Taylor from Essex and including David Hone from the Links won with a 15 under par score, on count back from Jason Levermore and his team made up by locals Matt Hartley, Toby Crisp and Chris Brown. Also from the Links and in 4th spot with a score of 13 under par were Jonny's team, Sarah Greenall, Sarah Reardon and Gill Andrews.

A big thank you to the PGA East region and all The Links staff that helped make this such a successful day.

GOOD LUCK TO JOCK STEWART TEAM ON SATURDAY

Good luck to our Men's side who are playing in the final of the Jock Stewart Memorial Trophy on Saturday against Barkway Park. The Jock Stewart Memorial Trophy is a knock out competition played between Clubs in the Cambridgeshire Area Golf Union. The format is 3 pairs of scratch foursomes, but pairs are matched by handicap groups of 6 - 10 hcp; 11 - 14 hcp and 15 - 20 hcp, with one pair in each group.

To reach the final our team have beaten Kingsway Golf Club, Menzies Golf Club and Thorpe Wood Golf Club. Our non-playing Team Captain is Chas Vincent, and the team is Charlie Clarricoates, Hamish Fleming, Lester Brown, Peter Nightingale, Eddie Clark and Ian Griffiths. The Club last won the Jock Stewart Trophy in 2005.

The final on Saturday is over 36 holes and will be played at Links Golf Club. They tee off from 8.30am and 1.00pm. Any support for the team is welcome and please give priority to the match if you are playing on Saturday.

Good luck to Chas and the team, bring home the trophy.
