This week I had the pleasure of the company of our Captain David Smith whilst playing in the East Region's round of the Captain Pro challenge. The event was played at The Addington GC at Croydon in Surrey. It was the first time I had played at the Addington and I will certainly be looking to go back. It is a very traditional golf club which celebrated its centenary last year. It also has a rich history which includes having King George VI's name on their honours board as a Patron of the club. After a 2 hour rain delay our game eventually got under way and we finished in a very creditable mid table position with the winner on the day being Jason Levermore and his captain. Jason who many will remember played in our Links Pro Am recently. Thank you again David for a most enjoyable day.
Ice bucket challenge
For those of you who are familiar with social media and Twitter you will be aware of what is called the Ice bucket challenge that is popular at the present time. Please click on the image to view Jonny serving out his challenge.
Jonny 2nd at The County Open
Jonny continued his good form this week whilst playing in the CAGU County Open at Saffron Walden. The Links had a good representation in the tournament with around ten members playing alongside and competing against around a dozen pros from the area. After a disappointing 4 over par 76 in the morning having been 2 under after 7 holes Jonny rallied with a 5 under par 67 in the afternoon to finish in second place behind Stuart Brown from Peterborough.
Junior Coaching
It was great to see last week the new wave of Juniors at the club having fun and getting involved in the game. They had a couple of hours playing the course and competing in some skills challenges followed by squash and refreshments in the clubhouse afterwards.
The club has had a strong Junior section for a number of years and is the envy of many clubs in the area. At the present time many clubs are struggling for numbers and are very low in Junior golfers but with these fun golf days hopefully we can continue to attract youngsters to our club. If you know anyone who might be interested then get in touch with us in the pro shop.
