New Short Game Area
Work began this week on a new short game area which is to be positioned on the car park practise area. It will greatly enhance the club's practise facilities and is to be designed in such a way, with undulations both in the chipping area and also on the green itself to enable members to practise a variety of short game shots not previously possible. Also included in the design will be two bunkers. The work on the green hopefully will be finished by Friday but will not be in play until next Spring 2015.
Abba Tribute Band
A super trouper of an evening was had by all on Saturday with a thank you for the music to Sensation, the Abba tribute band. Lots of dancing queens with men after midnight attended and although I'm not sure their mother knew, a great night was had by all. The dance floor was packed all night and a number of people dressed up in Abba costumes and wigs which helped make the event one of the highlight social evenings of the year. There is a possibility that the group may be back next year as they also offer a 60's & 70's dance night. Watch this space.
Ken and Graham both have holes in one on the same day.
On Monday this week, Ken Leake, who has been a member of the Links since 1969 had first hole in one on the 199 yard, 17th hole using his PING 5 wood whilst playing with Brian Bye, and on the same day not to be out done, Graham Carter aced the 3rd hole also using his 5 wood, witnessed by playing partner Michael Petty.
Well done gentlemen Congratulations to you both.
Chris Brown mixing with the stars!
Club member Chris Brown has just returned from a golfing holiday to Archfield Links in Scotland. At the same time Chris was at Archfield a European Ladies Tour event was just finishing up and whilst in the clubhouse Chris was lucky enough to get a picture with Trish Johnson who had just won the event.
Trish had just made some history by being the oldest European Tour winner at the age of 48.
Aerial shots of the Links
Philip Fuller, son of members John and Thelma Fuller, flew over the course last week and very kindly sent me these images from the air. I have seen aerial pictures of the course before but was particularly interested in these snaps as they quite clearly show the design changes to the bunkers that have been made in recent years.
