Once again the Ryder Cup didn't disappoint, the standard of play just seems to get better and better with every match. Paul McGinley proved to be one of the best Captains yet and I feel, was a big part of the win this time around. He seemed to be better prepared than Tom Watson who by the end of proceedings looked a little jaded. Phil Mickleson, I feel, was out of order when he openly criticised Watson at the after match press conference, there is a time and a place for that and it was neither. Rory McIlroy showed once again why he is the stand out player of the year and led by example. Well done Europe.
Society of Cambridgeshire Area Golf Captains.
This week the club played host to over 60 past captains from various clubs in the Cambridgeshire area, when the Society of Cambridgeshire Area Golf Captains (SCAGC) visited the club. This society was first founded back in 1965 by amongst others Mac Mackenzie of The Links and Sam Goddard of Saffron Walden. Next year will see the 50th anniversary of the society and Malcolm Coe from the Links has the honour of being the Captain for the year. The society plays against other counties from across the region in a number of challenge matches. It was good to see a number of old friends from various clubs I have been involved with over the years.
Good luck Malcolm next year.
Steve and Edie both have aces this week.
Congratulations to Steve Betts on his hole in one last Friday whilst playing with Brian Bye. On the 3rd hole Steve holed out using his driver for the 182 yard hole and then celebrated afterwards with champagne.
Then on Tuesday Edie Douglas aced the 9th hole with an 8 iron whilst playing with Hilary Radford, Jane Monk and Lynn Lambert.
This was Edie's third hole in one and again Champers was the celebration of choice.
Email Survey
A big thank you to all of you who took the time to fill in my equipment survey last week. I will be holding the draw to win the Macregor Cart bag next week once I have gone through all the forms. Thank you once again.
Golf Show at Harrogate
Next week I will be attending the Golf Show at the Exhibition Center in Harrogate viewing all the latest equipment that will be available for spring next year. Hopefully armed with the information I have gathered from my customer survey it will help with my buying decisions. It is always a busy week as the PGA also combine the show with a number of educational seminars. One of the highlights this year will be a seminar held by Dave Peltz a world renowned short game and putting coach. I will report back next week with my findings.
