Join Richard and Jonny at the Portugal Masters this October

This year the Portugal Pro Shop Matchplay will be on the 24th-28th October staying at Pestana Hotel Vila Sol. The trip will include bed and breakfast, 2 rounds at the Vila Sol Golf Course and coaching clinics on their large driving range. Added to the trip this year we have organised a day out at The Victoria GC to watch the European Tours finest playing in the Portugal Masters. If this hasn’t wetted your appetite enough then as a special bonus for our members we have negotiated with Golf Breaks sponsors of the event, tickets for access to the VIP marque at the 18th green including food and drinks. The evenings are also catered for as the hotel is just a short distance from Vilamoura Marina where there are lots of restaurants and bars for you to enjoy.

The price per person is £450 which includes airport transfers and transfers to the event. If you want your own room a supplement of £35 pp per night needs to be added.

Competition news

Links host County Foursomes Championships

Last Sunday the Links played host to CAGU and the staging of the 2019 County Foursomes Championships. Congratulations to Luke Ryan (Ely City) and Tom Rogers (Gog Magog) on winning the title with a very creditable score of 145 (1 over)71&74 for the 36 holes event pipping Ed Dimambro (Gog’s) and Owen Davies (Brampton Park) by 1 shot.

Other local notable scores came from Chris Brown and Christian Puttock, this year’s Links dream team in county events with their best nett score of the day following up on their win in the CAGU fourballs last month.

Molinari highlights slow play

Once again, the debate on slow play reared its ugly head over the weekend. Edoardo Molinari tweeted a list of timings after playing a five-and-a-half-hour round at the European Tour’s Trophee Hassan II event, making it clear he wasn't happy.

Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell was quick to dismiss Molinari’s clear frustration, saying he is ‘flogging a dead horse’, claiming players can’t get around any quicker. But what do you think?

Should the pros be leading by example in the hope that play quickens up at club level? Or should Molinari stop worrying about everyone else and focus on his own game?
