The October half term week each year is a busy one for the Junior section. On Saturday Junior Captains Day was held and on Wednesday this week Junior Charity Day. Like the main Club Captain's day in July, all the Junior competition winners for the year are presented with their trophies, along with vouchers going to all medal and Stableford winners.
On the day David Marris had a double success by winning the Junior Club Championship scratch trophy with a gross 78 and also the handicap cup with a net 73.
Special mention should be made of Jack Nunn who won the prize of Golfer of the Year for his success as a multiple winner and reducing his handicap to 12 over the season.

Well done to all the winners and good luck for next season to everyone else who didn't quite get over the finishing line this year.
Junior charity day.
Congratulations to Jordy Allen the Junior vice captain who, along with the support of his family, organised a successful day this week for his Charity Day.
Jordy picked a charity very close to home this year when choosing Racing Welfare, a registered charity that provides help and support for the stud, stable and support staff of British Horseracing.
With the help of members, manufacturers and support from the all the club staff the final amount raised should be around the £2000 mark.
Winners on the day in the Texas scramble competition was none other than Jordy Allen himself, partnered with Marcella Tuttle and Dave Anderton. Dave, in his acceptance speech at the prize giving touched on what a wonderful atmosphere there always is at this event each year, when all categories of the membership come together, have fun and raise funds for charity. Finally a special note of thanks should also go to Matt Hartley and Jonny Sharkey who have been very busy helping to pull things together on the day. Well done Jordy!
The wrong type of Birdie on the 15th hole.
It has been brought to our attention in the Pro Shop of a problem that has been affecting golfers when playing the 15th hole over the last few weeks. The birds are picking up golf balls in their beaks and carrying them away. On the face of it, it all seems quite amusing, but it can have serious consequences if you don't know the rule to rectify the situation.
See rule 18-1 Ball at rest moved by an outside agency.
Basically to apply the rule both you and your playing partner must agree and be virtually certain of what has happened.
If a ball at rest is moved by an outside agency, (i.e. birds) there is no penalty and the ball must be replaced for you to continue the hole. Hope this helps.

I would like to thank all the members who have stopped me this week to offer their condolences and taken time to tell me of their memories of my Dad, who has just passed away. He was a member of the club back in the 70's and 80's and I know they were some of his happiest days on a golf course. During his time at the club he excelled at the game winning the Club championship a record 6 times but more importantly he made many friends. Again Tricia, Jonathan, Nicholas and myself are grateful for your kind words.
