Jackie Ewing wins Ladies Club Championship

Congratulations to Jackie Ewing on winning the Ladies Club Championships for the 6th time. She didn’t have it all her own way this year after finding stiff resistance from Marcella Tuttle when after 36 holes both were tied on159 gross.

A playoff ensued and Jackie eventually came out on top. Theresa Locke had the best nett score on the day with a nett 140 playing off a 16 handicap.

This weekend will be the men’s chance with the Ennion Salver for handicaps 19-28 on Saturday and the Scratch and Reynolds Salvers over 36 holes on Sunday. Good luck to all, it looks like we won’t be experiencing the heat of the last few days, thankfully.

PING demo day

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the PING demo day on Wednesday this week.

Despite the hot weather it was a very enjoyable occasion and we were able to improve on most people’s set make up.

We were able to fill distance gaps with hybrids and fairway woods plus also added correct loft gap wedges to fit current sets.

Hit your second shot further

Loft is your friend when trying to gain distance with long shots off the fairway. As golfers we fall into categories of either low or high ball flight trajectories which is down to our natural swing tendencies. If you find it difficult to flight shots off the ground with the less lofted clubs you may find for example that you hit your more lofted hybrid further than your 3 wood - You’re not alone!

Putting Saturday - Saturday 3rd August 12-3pm

This event will be a great opportunity for you to understand what is required to become a better putter. How do you practise your putting? Have you a plan on what you’re working on? What DO you need to work on?

Jonny will be on hand to chat about all areas putting. He will be on the putting green offering free advice on how to improve.

You can use the EvnRoll loft board to check your putter has the correct loft, Blast Motion will check your tempo and stroke length plus there will be available to try EvnRoll, Scotty Cameron, PING and Odyssey putters and advice on what styles you should be looking for.

You will also be able to try a number of different training aids that are designed to help improve your putting.

Cut yourself some slack

It makes sense that the closer the ball is to the hole the more chance we have of holing it, but how much easier is a 5-foot putt than a 10-foot putt? Well, here are some stats taken from the PGA Tour's website the week after this year's PGA Championship, which we think makes for interesting reading…

Percentage of putts made from various distances

Bear in mind these stats are from the top 20 putters on the PGA Tour, you can bet your bottom dollar that the percentages would be a little lower for us mere mortals. Either way, they really do highlight the importance of accuracy with our approach shots, not to mention distance control with our lag putts.

Improve on the greens

Hopefully, you're feeling a little better about your putting and beginning to reassess your expectations when on the greens.

Although you have no divine right to hole any putt, improving your stroke and having a putter that is suited to your technique will help to improve your percentages.
