Captain and John win Sausage Supper!
David Smith, Club Captain and John Hodgson won the Sausage Supper fourball last Sunday with 42 points. On a damp and misty morning scoring proved to be difficult with the onus on staying on the fairway and out of the very wet rough. David and John managed to do just that and pipped John Blake and Kevin McDonnell and Chris white and partner Mark Avison into second place by just 1 point.
Get a grip this winter!
I was talking with a representative from Golf Pride, one of the World's largest manufacturers of grips this week. He brought to my attention a couple of the new grips they have introduced this year, In particular the CP2 grip.
I am informed that the CP2 is Golf Prides Softest feeling grip ever, it also feels extremely tacky a combination that is ideal in the cold weather that we have ahead of us this winter.
The grip is often an overlooked component of the golf club but I can assure you a hard dry grip will definitely create issues with your performance. The CP2 grip is all about performance and is available in standard or midsize to help get you that perfect fit.
We have some demo grips in the Pro shop, so please pop in and pick one up and see what you think.
Jonny and a golf lesson offer
Jonny has returned this week from his year 3 residential training at The Belfry where part of his training involved sports science. He found this area particularly informative and helpful when linking it to the golf swing.
Today we are much more aware about the importance of understanding how our body works when it performs a sporting movement, how to protect it and how, in golf, the action we make affects the swing we achieve.
Some facts Jonny has learnt about are:
How to access the range of movement an individual has in their body.
The possibility of physical limitations causing swing faults.
Screening tests to access a person's limitation in body movement.
Jonny is hoping to incorporate this understanding and knowledge in his lessons.
To put this knowledge into practice, Jonny is offering 30 minute lessons for £10 throughout Dec - Feb.
You can book in by clicking here or see Jonny in the Pro shop.
Do you listen to music when you golf?
This week I read an article in the daily paper that scientists believe certain genres of music can improve your sporting ability. Tests of top university golfers found that jazz music could enhance their putting skills more than classical, country, rock and hip-hop music. When listening to jazz male golfers were 17% more accurate and female players got 10% more putts on target.
Country music was found to improve batting skills in baseball and rap improved basketball skills. But beware those of you who like rock - it was found to produce the lowest accuracy!
It is believed music helps players concentrate and provides a tempo for them to perform under. Jazz acts as a calming effect as opposed to other genres with higher tempos.
Maybe we should join the youngsters with their headphones on the practise range?
