Quiz Evening
Saturday 21 February 2015
The Quiz Evening held on Saturday 21 February proved to be as popular as ever with 120 Members and Guests comprising 15 Teams. Peter Bush, Club Chairman, again acted as Quiz Master and put together entertaining, yet a testing groups of questions. All teams performed well, but following a sudden death playoff the 'Sundowners' captained by Mike Beetham edged out 'Gerry and the Pacemakers' captained by Gerry Bangs into second place with a score of 103 out of a maximum of 111. Out in front and securing victory with an impressive score of 107 were 'One under the Eight' captained by Hilary Radford.
During four years as Quiz Master, Peter Bush has put his own style onto Quiz Evenings making them very entertaining, but testing groups of questions, making this event one of the most popular social events in the Club Calendar. Peter announced his retirement as Quiz Master, but the good news is that Lesley Ellis has agreed to take over, with the next Quiz taking place in the Autumn.
The evening concluded with Ladies Captain Diane McDonnell presenting the prizes to the winning teams and Captain Ray Bolton extending the Club's appreciation to Peter for his valuable contribution to the Social Calendar over the past four years with his fantastically organised Quizzes.
PGA East Region AGM
Along with over 100 other golf professionals I attended the PGA East Region AGM at Bishop's Stortford Golf Club on Thursday this week. Preceding the meeting the annual fourball competition was played and my partner in the event was Gog's Pro Ian Bamborough. It was good to meet up my fellow Pro's and talk about how they and their clubs had managed over the winter months. The AGM is always an indicator that the new golf season is not to far away, in fact the qualifying school for the East Region tournament season is only a few weeks away on the 17th & 18th March, this is an event that this year Richard,Jonny and I will all be playing in.
Sandy Jones the PGA chief executive came along from the PGA's national headquarters at the Belfry and gave a talk about the training opportunities for our young trainees, he shared his experiences from the recent Ryder Cup at Gleneagles and then referred to the associations plans for 2015.
We have just received the new G30 range of clubs from PING for the new season. I was particularly interested to see the new Low Spin model driver which is brand new to the PING range this spring. PING now have a driver for everyone. The standard, the straight flight and now for those stronger players the low spin. Which one will suit your game, find out, book a free fitting appointment on our launch monitor and let us try and gain you some extra yardage.

Other notable features of the new G30 range include turbulators on drivers and fairway woods and better adjustability. The crown turbulators improve aerodynamics by reducing drag forces, helping to increase clubbed speed for more distance.
A new, thinner and lighter T9S face material enabled the G30 driver's CG to be moved lower and further back than the G25 driver. This increases moment of inertia and reduces spin.
Adjustability has been increased to +/-1 degree, three shafts to choose from with multiple flexes and a number of other performance benefits on offer.
