Greetings from John Sharkey
The Links Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Looking for a game?- Join the Pro's Saturday Club.

To launch the Pros Saturday Club this weekend we are staging our very own Links Pro Am. We are delighted to say that entry for this is now full as numbers are limited to just 9 members that will be joining Richard, Jonny and myself for this 10 hole event. We will however be staging further events for all categories of the membership over the year. Plus please join us though from next Saturday 29th March and each and every Saturday thereafter as the Saturday Club begins proper. It is particularly aimed at new members but we would be delighted to see any club member come along and get involved. Our idea is to get everyone (ladies and gents) to meet at the Pro Shop at 1.30pm, draw for partners and play 10 holes. It is not a competition, you do not need a handicap just come along and join in. It will be a great opportunity to meet other members and enjoy a relaxed game of golf. To make this a success I need your help, don't worry if you can't make the first Saturday as it will become a regular fixture in the Pro Shop's calendar. Please give this initiative your support.

Christine's Hole In one!

I was extremely pleased for Christine Camplin this week as she achieved a lifelong ambition when she had a hole in one. I was surprised when Christine approached me at first as I was in the practise nets with a client on a club fitting session. But once Christine relayed to us her good news both my client and myself where delighted for her. The ace came at the 9th hole on Monday 17th whilst partnering Susanna Gilbert. The telling blow was a well flighted 5 wood that covered the pin all the way before landing and falling into the cup. Christine told me that she had chosen the 5 wood because of the extra practise she had had with it as it was one of the three clubs she had chosen in a recent 3 club ladies social competition. Very well done Christine.

Junior Pro Am event

We are holding our second such event for the juniors on Saturday 29th the idea in this instance is to get the junior section together for a team bonding session in readiness for their matches which start in April. We are still a few juniors down so if you have a handicap and would like to play in this year's matches against other clubs in the area get in touch, we would love to hear from you. PGA East Region Q School

Richard Qualifies!

Both Richard and Jonny played at Essendon GC in Hertfordshire this week in the Q School for PGA East Region tournament schedule. We are very pleased to announce that Richard had a successful week finishing as one of the top 50 players who gained full playing rights for the season ahead. With rounds of 78 + 73 Richard finished in a tie for 28th spot. Unfortunately Jonny after an accident on his way to the tournament on the first day, a blown tyre, had rounds of 83+77 to miss out. All is not lost though for Jonny as he will now have a second chance when he joins me at the second level of qualifiers still available.

Well done Richard.

New watering system.

On Thursday this week you may have noticed the green staff putting back into service the watering system on the course plus the new irrigation work on the putting green outside the Pro Shop, hopefully in preparation for the long hot summer. Work done on the putting green in particular will give us the best chance of developing the putting surface further, as we will be able to irrigate at more beneficial time of the day.

Fourball Supper

In perfect sunshine last Sundays Fourball Supper competition was a closely thought event with 4 pairs tying on 41 points all sharing the spoils. The winning combinations where Philp Robinson and Nick Smith, Rob Scott & Peter Curtis, Ian Starling & Ricky Manson and Mark Avison & Mark Dunwoody.

Bridgstone ball fitting day - Friday 28th March 10am-2pm.

Are you happy with the ball you play? Do you play with a ball that is suited to your game? What type of ball should you be looking for? You will be able to get answers to all of the above questions at The Pro Shop on Friday

28th March between 10am & 2pm.

We have an expert from Bridgestone who will be on hand to offer advice to the members. Please make a date in the diary and come along and get fitted, it might be the single best thing you do for your golf this season. Even if you can't come on the day have a chat with any member of the Pro Shop Team who will only be too happy to help and advice.

Please book your 15 minute slot by clicking here and sending me an email.

Personalised Captains Sweaters

Last call to Captains both past and present, I will be finalising the order for personalised club sweaters and shirts with FREE year of office embroidery on this next week. Glenmuir the company we use for our clothing have changed their sizing so if you are interested please pop into the shop for a fitting.

Remember that even if your current sweater is OK but just fancy a change there are many other styles of garments and colours other than the club green and yellow you can chose from.

Why playing with the right golf ball is essential

Playing with the wrong ball could be compromising your feel around the green and performance off the tee. It pays to consider what ball you play in relation to your ability.
