Greetings golfers,
The club hosted two county competitions this week, below is a report on how things went.
Mens CAGU County Foursomes Championships
The 2015 County Foursomes Championship took place in ideal conditions at the Links Golf Club on Sunday. It looked to be an ideal day for low scoring, especially when early starters Owen Davies and James Reeson both from Brampton Park returned a brilliant score of 4 under par 68.
Unfortunately the rest of the field of 42 pairs were unable to match their dazzling golf and at lunch they led by the huge margin of 7 shots. In second place were Richard Temple and Gareth Bell of Gog Magog on 75 with the promising county juniors Olly Rust and Owen Meeds in 3rd on 76.
In the afternoon it was just a walk in the park for the leaders as they returned another fine round of 70 after dropping 2 shots on their final 3 holes for a total of 138. The next best afternoon score came from the experienced pairing of Steve Jarvis and Dave Quinney from Gog Magog who scored 72 and coupled with their 1st round score of 77, this left them in the runners up spot with 149. Finishing in 3rd place were Richard Temple and Gareth Bell with 152. Gareth finished 3rd last year with James Clough of the Links GC after earlier in 2014 both winning the County Fourball.
Tournament controller Neil Hughes said "It was a great day for golf, although not wholly reflected in the scoring, The Links GC are to be congratulated for their efforts on the course and the excellent service by caterers and staff".
