John Yuill's Club Championship!
The weather has played a big part in both The Open at St Andrews and the Seniors British Open at Sunningdale recently and so it proved for our own Men's Club championships last Sunday. The forecast was spot on with rain forecast from about 11am which would continue throughout the day. It proved a tough challenge for the field of 60 golfers and the variable standard scratch score was pushed out to 74.
Congratulations to John Yuill (78, 76 ) on winning the Scratch Club Championship for 2015. John's gross score of 76, in the worst of the conditions was the best score in the afternoon and was finished off with what proved to be an all-important birdie 3 on his last hole. He was joined by Ed Harper (77, 77) and Ken Parsons (75, 79) in the sudden death play-off. Although the standard of golf dipped in the play off for all the players, which is understandable in the conditions John was able to close out the title on the fourth extra hole. Very well played John.
The Reynolds Salver the Club Championship for handicappers 1-18 was won by Derren Williams who playing off a 12 handicap managed to win by 7 shots with scores of nett 66,75=141 from Adam Dyer nett 148 in the runners up spot. Well played Derren. And to complete the Championship weekend Gerry Johnstone won the Ennion Salver on Saturday for handicappers 19-28 when he amassed 42 points to win by a clear 4 points.
Well done to everyone who played and managed to complete their rounds.
Birthday Girls Janice and Jackie
A lot of party fun and laughter was to be heard last week in the clubhouse when a joint birthday celebration was held for Janice Mansfield and Jackie O'Gorman.
Janice and Jackie's regular playing partners all decided to get together and by the looks of it a great evening was had by all.
Congratulations from the Pro Shop Team.
New PING irons just arrived in store for launch today
Unlike many golf companies that release new models at an alarming rate PING Golf, incidentally still family owned, only come to market with new products when they are an improvement on their existing equipment. This week Mike Probert our PING representative presented to us two new models PING i and PING GMax irons. The GMax will be of particular interest as the clubhead design will benefit many golfers at the Links just because it is so easy to use. Field results that I have personally seen have already confirmed this to me. The clubhead design has the single most influence on ball flight than any other component that goes to make a golf club. To complement the clubhead PING for the first time have increased their shaft selections available helping the club fitter maximise the club benefits to the golfer. Book a fitting today and see how much improvement you can make.

Day out at Aldeburgh
I spent a lovely day out at Aldeburgh Golf Club this week with Linda. She has once again, and you won't be surprised, been sales employee of the year and this was her treat. As you know Linda is great fun and she has allowed me to share with you a video of her attempts to extricate herself from one of the many cavernous bunkers at Aldeburgh ( simply click on the image). I have to say though that she would probably got out of any of our bunkers at the Links but with the wooden sleepers adding to the intimidation factor Linda had her work cut out.
