The Club Captain Ray Bolton and Richard Childerley our PGA Assistant won and went through their regional qualifying round last week to reach the Finals of this year's PGA National Pro/Capt Challenge at the PGA Sultan Golf Course in Turkey. 

Ray who has been a member of the club for 46 years and Richard played in the Midlands qualifying event which was held at Northamptonshire County Golf Club last Friday. 

The deadly duo edged home on countback in a tight finish ahead of Shane Rose and Iain Kerr, of Northamptonshire's Cold Ashby Golf Club. Both clubs carded a five-under-par round of 65. But it was the Newmarket pairing who came out on top thanks to a back nine of 30 which included five birdies. 

Ray and Richard will now play in the £25,000 showpiece final to be held at the PGA Sultan Course at Antalya Golf Club in Turkey between November 25-26. 

The win was part of a double celebration for all involved as it was also Richard's 27th birthday the following day "the win was an early present", Ray also went onto say "I've been a member at The Links since 1969 and never played anywhere else. So it's great to win something like this. I've never been to Turkey before so we're both looking forward to it." 

Twelve handicapper Ray admitted the win was hard earned. "We were out quite early and seemed to get the worst of the weather, so we did well in spite of that," he said.

Hamish clears up at Links Pro-Am 

Hamish Fleming, a Links member who was part of the winning Pro-Am team at our very own Pro-Am last week puts his success down to a few tips from Richard and his new PING G30 driver. 

Hamish was having a few problems off the tee and decided to book a fitting session for a new driver. The result of the fitting suggested to Hamish that he should choose a club and shaft with more loft and slightly more flex, and the rest as they say is history.
